London is considered one of the best cities in the world, and as we live just an hour away from central London, we quite often spend a night or two in the city, testing out new restaurants, shopping on oxford street or seeing a show in the West End.
Although we aren't far from London, we personally prefer spending the night (or sometimes two) to really get the full experience and to be able to enjoy dinner and drinks without having to rush back for a train. As such, we've stayed in a fair few hotels across the city and have a variety of hotels still saved that we've been personally recommended and have yet to try.
All of the hotels featured in this post are one's we have personally stayed in. For more recommendations for alternative places, head over to our Thatch profile to see other hotels our friends and family have stayed in.
I've put them in order of our favourites, but honestly they're all great hotels, in good locations!
The Rookery | £££ - Clerkenwell, about a 20 minute walk from Liverpool Street. This beautiful building from 1764 has been lovingly renovated to match the history of the area.
South Place Hotel | £££ - Central London, walking distance to Liverpool Street. This boutique and lively hotel is designed for wining, dining and dancing, offering a choice five bars and great meals.
The Gantry | ££-£££ - Best hotel in Stratford! Walking distance to the station, has parking if you decide to drive. The rooftop bar provides great views, the rooms are lovely and stylish and come at a pretty good price.
Hotel Saint | ££ - Best priced hotel in the central London area! The hotel offer contemporary comfort with natural light and a very warm welcome. It’s also home to Jin Bo Law, a unique rooftop bar with great views of some of the most iconic skyline in London.

The May Fair | £££ - Opened in 1927 and now transformed into a contemporary getaway known for its timeless elegance and charm. This is a lovely, reasonably priced hotel in affluent Mayfair.

Clayton Hotel London Wall | ££ - Centrally located and easy to find makes this hotel a perfect base for exploring the city. Each room is designed to add to your relaxation and the in-house restaurant offers modern cuisine.
Hyatt Regency, Stratford | ££ - Not as nice as the Gantry, but in the best location for shopping in Westfields, offering good prices.
Leonardo Royal St Pauls | ££-£££ - An eco friendly hotel with a lovely hotel bar, great food and comfortable beds. This is fab spot in Central London.
Hyatt Place East | ££ - A stylish place, walking distance from LLS with nice rooms, easy check-in/out service and it’s pet friendly.
Moxy Stratford | £ - Nice hotel with vibrant style and a friendly energy, BUT can be noisy due to it's location (right on top of Stratford Station).
Park Plaza, Westminster | £££ - Really good location, particularly for sightseeing! One of the restaurants offers french cuisine and on on-site spa for relaxation after a busy day out.
These are all of the hotels we've visited so far in London but we've a few others we're desperate to try out!
We've made a list on Thatch of hotels we'd love to try out next, including some very luxurious spots and some very unique options, including a hotel that reportedly was used by Johnny Depp and Kate Moss (the story includes a bathtub of Champagne!!)
Happy Travels!
